Information on common ingredients found in many other brands of Shampoo & Conditioners

EO does not believe in using the following ingredients, commonly used in most other products

Olefin sulfonate-petroleum distillate; inexpensive surfactants.

Cocamide DEA- a surfactant that contains diethanolamines, about which carcinogenic concerns were raised following a 1997 National Toxicology Program study. Synthesized from coconut oil and petroleum-based ammonia and ethylene oxide.

Diazolidinyl Urea-a formaldehyde-donor preservative that is considered carcinogenic.

Synthetic dyes-synthetically derived colorants have no functional value

Synthetic fragrances-these compromise the experience of plant-based fragrances and are manufactured through the use of potentially hazardous chemicals such as toluene, benzene, naphthalene, styrene, acetone, and many petroleum-derived materials.

Sodium or ammonium lauryl or laureth sulfates. Warnings have been issued about the likelihood of skin irritation when products containing these ingredients are used:

1) Frequently. 2) In concentrations of greater than 2-5% 3) For a length of time (in a bubble bath, for example) 4) And are not completely rinsed off. These ingredients are often used in high concentrations in products that are used frequently and around sensitive areas (eyes, mouth, ears).
